Canterbury local and longstanding CCC Men's First XI player Lachlan Streat has been appointed as captain for season 2025/26.
"The opportunity to captain the club is a great honour and a responsibility that I don’t take lightly," Lachlan said. "The club has a great history and I look forward to being a part of building the next successful period for the club."
Lachlan started his cricket at CCC in the Under 10s back in 2007 and has been at the club ever since. He made his First XI debut in 2014 at just 16 years of age and has now played over 200 matches across all formats.
Andy Mills, who captained Lachlan for the majority of his time at Canterbury, reflected on the decision. "Lachie has been a mainstay of the 1st team for over a decade & has been a trusted part of the leadership group from a young age," he said. "He stepped up seamlessly last season when Ducky was injured and showed all the hallmarks of a great leader — calm under pressure, selfless, and committed to the club’s success. He leads by example in the way he plays and is held in extremely high regard by the group. He’ll do an excellent job leading the club into this next chapter!"
Lachlan's time at the club includes multiple match-winning hundreds and final campaigns, capped off by a premiership in 2016/17 in Wright Shield.
That's the competition Canterbury returns to this season, after a difficult year led to relegation from Dunstan Shield.
"In what shapes to be a year of reset and refresh for the club I’m looking forward to the challenge of helping to establish an environment in which we can enjoy playing a competitive and sustainable brand of cricket," Lachlan continued. "I see no reason to put any limitations on the success the club can achieve this season."
