WOMENS

Women's 1st XI vs. Heatherdale

CCC 88 (33.5)

Heatherdale 8/131 (40)

R Harris 35 (69)

H Lindsay 2/5 (4)

E Sheth 23 (41)

I Clayton 1/11 (6)

The firsts played away against Heatherdale for the second time this season, with Heatherdale batting first and making a usually very chaseable total of 8/131.

The bowlers demonstrated periods of excellence especially in the last 6 overs of the innings where the team took 5/13. The best of the bowlers included Hanna (2/5), in only her third game for the firsts, who was instrumental alongside Isla (1/11) and Emily in those last 6 overs. Spinners Rachael (1/17), Jo (1/23) and Matilda, and Eva and Hayley combined throughout the middle overs to build on the pressure and keep runs to a minimum regardless of the solid partnership being built by our opponents.

Unfortunately our extras were the second highest run total which ultimately was our let down. Rachael (35) and Bridie (18) opened the batting making a 38 run partnership but ultimately struggled to find their groove. A very consistent bowling effort from our opponents meant limited bad balls to capitalise off and we struggled to penetrate the field. A 23 run showing from Eva kept us in touch but ultimately we fell short of our target. It was good to see Hayley and Hanna get an opportunity to bat in the firsts which is sure to be great learning for them and the future.

Women's 2nd XI vs. Wandin

CCC 112 (29.4)

Wandin 2/113 (25.5)

R Clayton 30 (45)

L Fitz-Patrick 1/16 (4)

V Gonsalves 13 (27)

M Roberts 1/12 (3)

The Women’s 2nd XI played at home against Wandin this Sunday.

Batting first, we put up 112 with some solid contributions from Victoria Gonsalves (13 off 27) and Emma Wood (11 off 28), but also a massive win for Rose Clayton making 30 runs off 45 balls A few key partnerships, including Emma and Rose early and Victoria and Lucy late, helped keep the scoreboard ticking.

With the ball, Lucy Fitz-Patrick (1/16 off 4) got us off to a flying start with an LBW in the second over, as well as some bowling from Mia Roberts (1/12 off 3) with another LBW. The fielding was sharp all round, but Wandin’s strong batting line-up eventually chased down the total at 2/113 in the 25th over. A great team effort overall with plenty of positives to take into next week.

MENS

All games this week in the ECA were cancelled due to inclement weather... but no one told the MCA!

Men's 3rd XI vs. South Yarra

CCC 7/156 (35)

South Yarra 3/233 (35)

T Credlin 39

O Addison 1/26 (6)

E Newman 28

J Thompson 1/40 (8)

In a rain-delayed 70-over match over the weekend, our 3rd XI unfortunately fell short against top side South Yarra. Despite this, Ollie Addison (1/26 off 6 overs) and Josh Thompson (1/40 off 8 overs) bowled beautifully. Missing a few early chances with dropped catches sadly led to the opponents’ big target of 233.

Tom Credlin (39) looked very comfortable at the crease, opening up for the Berries against an accurate early bowling attack.

After drinks, it was No. 5 Eddie Newman (28) and No. 8 Jack Quartel (40*) who entertained with two brilliant innings. Flying the Berries flag high, both boys showed great determination in what was a difficult day for our 3s.

JUNIORS

Under 14B vs. Ashburton Willows

CCC 1/150 (40)

Ashburton Willows 9/151 (40)

J Yeung 50 (114)

J Yeung 2/14 (5)

F Campbell 50 (100)

The fielding unit - four run outs!

WHAT. A. GAME.

Our Under 14Bs put themselves in a commanding position after Day 1, piling on 150 runs for the loss of only one wicket. This included an incredible partnership between Jacob Yeung and Finn Campbell.

In response, Ashburton Willows got off to a great start, getting to 1/113 mid way through. But Canterbury started to pickup wickets at frequent intervals, lead by an incredible fielding effort - including four run outs; two from Jack Fitz-Patrick!

Jacob Yeung continued his dominance from bat to ball, picking up 2/14 of his 5 overs.

After 37 overs, Ashburton Willows were 4/144, just 7 runs away from victory. Here's what happened next...

One ball to go, one run to win, one wicket in hand. Unfortunately for us, Ashburton Willows squeezed a single and won the game. Congratulations to both teams on an incredible game!
