Woolworths Cricket Blast (under-10s, all welcome)
Blasters is a program designed to introduce children to cricket in a fun, relaxed environment. The game-based activities bring kids together in a frenzy of fun and excitement. They make new friends, learn new skills and experience the thrill of being part of a team.
Weekly sessions focus on building skills and having fun together. Equipment is provided—families just need to turn up.
Junior cricket general info
The registration fee covers season subscriptions, insurance, ground hire and team kit.
For planning purposes, we encourage early registrations. We prefer most registrations to be completed by the end of August to ensure we have the facilities and resources needed for the number of teams.
We offer a sibling discount if a family has more than one child registering with the club. Please select this option if it applies to your second registration.
Club uniforms should be purchased separately via the online shop.
Junior girls cricket
We cater for girls from upper primary school through high school. No prior cricket experience is needed. Teams are formed based on age, experience, skills and friendships.
Games are played in the T20 format on Wednesday evenings, usually starting at 5 p.m.
The junior girls program is split into three stages to account for the range of ages and abilities:
-
Stage 1: teams of seven players starting their cricket journey
-
Stage 2: teams of nine players developing skills
-
Stage 3: teams of 11 players playing in a more competitive environment
Stages 1 and 2 are further broken down into skill levels—Spirit and Stars—so girls can develop at their own pace.
Many older junior girls also have the opportunity to train and play within the women’s program, a chance to develop skills and build friendships within the Canterbury community.
Junior boys cricket
This program is designed for boys ages 8 to 16 (generally starting in grade 2 or 3). All skill levels are welcome, including those new to cricket. Teams are formed in age groups.
We have a strong older-age program, with many juniors continuing into senior men’s cricket. Boys in under-16 teams are given the opportunity to join our men’s fourth team. We believe in developing our own talent at Canterbury and want kids to enjoy cricket for years to come.
The season is expected to run from early October to mid-February. Based on preliminary information, games are scheduled as follows:
-
Under-10: Sunday mornings
-
Under-12: Saturday mornings
-
Under-14: Friday nights
-
Under-16: Friday nights
Under-14 and under-16 groups typically field multiple teams. We expect to register A and B teams into higher-level Eastern Cricket Association competitions. Families will be contacted about the tryout process for A teams.
