Canterbury Masters John Kent, Charlie Morris, Michael Loy and Tony Stancombe all played key roles for the Big V at the recent Over 70’s National Championships on the Sunshine Coast.

Playing in the Division 2 team, John & Charlie helped the Victorian team bring home the trophy. Proving that there is indeed “only one Charlie Morris”, Charlie was the best bowler for Victoria, taking 9 wickets (two hauls of 4-for against ACT and SA) at an average of 9.8 over the series, including a Man of the Match performance against South Australia. John took 2/8 off 3 overs and was 10 not out at the end of the win against Tasmania.
In the Grand Final against New Zealand, John top-scored with 35 (retired) and Charlie made 27 not out as the Vics claimed the win.
In Division 3 Pool A, playing for the Vic Whites, Michael Loy was only knocked over once in 3 innings during the Pool rounds. He scored a total of 41 runs with two retirements (after 40 balls). Unfortunately, he wasn’t so lucky in the play-off for 5th. Nor were the Vic Div 3, who finished 6th overall.
Tony Stancombe played for the Victorian Blue team in Division 3 Pool B. Tony made solid contributions with both bat and ball, with the team making the Grand Final. Unfortunately, they were beaten by NSW in the final.
Well done, gentlemen! We have some very fine Masters cricketers at Canterbury. Go Berries!
