The Mackie Memorial Trophy in memory of the great Tom Mackie was awarded to the Club's outstanding allrounder. Together with the honour of having one's name on the board, the winner was presented with a small token. In 1948‑49, the winner was Joe Goodear and he was presented with a golf club. Ten years later Joe had acquired a virtual monopoly on the board, and his golf bag was overflowing. It is fair to suggest that had the Mackie Memorial Trophy continued to be awarded, Joe's name would have continued to dominate, and he would have acquired a complete second set of golf clubs. Joe, being a humble man thought enough was enough, and quietly the Mackie Memorial Trophy was placed in recess.
